Etienne Rolland-Piègue

Etienne Rolland-Piègue is the Consul General of France in Pondicherry and Chennai since September 2024. He is responsible for advancing the Indo-French relationship in the consular jurisdiction covering Tamil Nadu, Kerala as well as UTs of Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar islands.
A graduate from the Ecole normale supérieure and a PhD candidate at INSEAD, he entered the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997, occupying diverse positions in Paris as an economist in the policy planning unit and as a head of unit dealing with development issues. He was then posted at the World Bank as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director for France (2003-2006), before several high-level positions fulfilled in French embassies in Japan (Economic and Commercial Counsellor), South Korea (Deputy Head of Mission) and Vietnam (Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs). A seasoned diplomat with more than 15 years of field experience in East Asia and South-East Asia, his background today allows him to have a comprehensive overview of the stakes surrounding the Indo-Pacific area, which lies at the heart of the Indo-French relationship.
